Downers Grove will see a variety of special holiday festivals, shopping opportunities, contests, and tours happening at the end of this month and into December. If you’re out and about as a participant or a bystander, take a break for lunch or end a day of fun with a delicious pizza at Block Pizza. Check out what’s happening in and around Downers Grove this season:
Gingerbread Festival – From November 27-29, get your gingerbread on with an all-day gingerbread man hunt and gingerbread house contest at participating Downers Grove businesses. On Friday, you can attend a 3:30 p.m. story time at the Downers Grove Library, followed by a tree lighting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, visit with Santa in his gingerbread house from 1-4 p.m. Or on Sunday, enjoy breakfast with Santa at the Pinecone Cottage Tea House at 10:15 a.m. or at Ballydoyle Irish Pub at 11:30 a.m. (reservations required). These are just a few of the many events happening during the festival.
Giving Tuesday – If shopping is your thing, why not give back as well. Several retailers in downtown Downers Grove will be participating in the People’s Resource Center “Share the Spirit Program” on Tuesday, December 1. Donations and a portion of sales will benefit the PRC.
Breakfast with Santa – Couldn’t get enough breakfast with Santa during the Gingerbread Festival? Not to worry. The breakfast fun continues on Sunday, December 6, at Zest Bistro from 10:15-11:15 a.m. and again at Emmett’s Ale House from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Don’t forget to make a reservation and bring your camera to capture those great Santa photo ops.
Winter Wonderland Light Decorating Contest – Check out the homes entered in this amazing holiday light decorating contest December 14-16 from 5-10 p.m. each night. Addresses and a map of the entered homes will be included on the contest’s website.
Victorian Christmas – The Downers Grove Museum is hosting a special tour of the Victorian Blodgett House on Saturday, December 19, at 1 p.m., where you can learn about Victorian Christmas traditions, tour the beautiful holiday-decorated home, and enjoy a warm cup of cider. All ages are welcome.
